2009 HITSP Webinar Series to Commence with Introductory Session

New York January 9, 2009

Next week, the Healthcare Information Technology Standards Panel (HITSP) will kick off its 2009 series of webinars on interoperability in healthcare information technology (HIT). The 2009 webinar series will commence on Thursday, January 15 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. with an introductory session that will be hosted by Dr. John Halamka.

In addition to his role as chair of HITSP, Dr. Halamka is CIO of the CareGroup Health System, CIO and dean for technology at Harvard Medical School, chair of the New England Health Electronic Data Interchange Network (NEHEN), CEO of MA-SHARE, and a practicing emergency physician.
Next week’s introductory session will provide a high-level overview of HITSP, including 2008 accomplishments; the relationship of HITSP to the National eHealth Collaborative Board, the new private-sector led successor to the American Health Information Community (AHIC); the latest HITSP initiatives including newborn screening and clinical research; and how HITSP specifications are being implemented today.

Following Dr. Halamka’s introductory session, eleven subsequent webinars will be held throughout the year to further examine specific topics and HITSP Interoperability Specifications (IS).
The 2009 HITSP webinar series builds upon the success of the nine webinars held during 2008, which were lauded by attendees as “on target and easy to listen to,” “a great overview,” and “very understandable to an audience that probably has a very diverse background.” [
