On behalf of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), we invite you to participate in a webinar about how to use deliberative methods to explore the views of patients, consumers, caregivers, or other members of the community on health policy and healthcare issues.
Overview
AHRQ’s Community Forum, initiated in 2010, seeks to improve and expand public and stakeholder engagement in the Agency’s Effective Health Care (EHC) Program, which conducts and supports comparative effectiveness research. As part of this effort, we have focused on the area of deliberative methods for obtaining public views. This webinar will describe how to use deliberative methods to elicit the views of patients, consumers, or caregivers – or of other community groups – concerning health policy and healthcare issues. The purpose of this webinar is to share tools with important potential to enhance your work in the areas of public deliberation, patient/consumer participation, and community engagement.
Public deliberation convenes members of the public or of a specific community to learn about and discuss a societal issue. The purpose is to learn from the participants and ultimately to make policy decisions that reflect their views. Various methods of public deliberation – deliberative methods – can be employed and often are used to reach the general public or people who are particularly affected by an issue.
During this webinar, we will discuss:
· How deliberative methods vary from more traditional or familiar methods of obtaining public views, such as opinion polls or focus groups;
· Under what circumstances deliberative methods may be useful;
· What issues are appropriate for deliberation;
· Defining features of deliberative methods;
· Best practices in the application of deliberative methods; and
· How deliberative methods could be used in your work.
The webinar will take place on December 6, 2011 from 2:00 – 3:30 pm (EST). If you would like to participate, please register here: Link to Registration or paste the following website address into your web browser: https://air-min.webex.com/air-min/j.php?ED=16414853&RG=1&UID=0&RT=MiMxMQ%3D%3D. We are interested in discussing real-world issues currently facing the audience. If you have an issue that warrants public, community, patient/consumer, or caregiver input, please share the issue with us when registering.
We look forward to your participation!
